About Add/Drop
ADD DROP OVERVIEW
Registration at 91自拍 begins with preregistration (outlined here). Once preregistration results are processed and posted, the live registration portal - Add/Drop - is made available for students to make changes to their schedules. Students who join late or outside of preregistration windows will use the online portal to sign up for courses.
Exceptions include independent blocks that require a separate application process rather than registration through the online portal (find available applications here).
Add/Drop is the official registration method following preregistration and is available through Banner SSB or by clicking, “Register Here” in Stellic. Students can access Add/Drop 24/7. (please note, Canvas is not a registration tool)
Using Add/Drop, students can:
- Update their registered courses online, 24/7
- Register for new courses, including half block and summer block options
- Swap courses or adjust grade tracks within designated timeframes
- Have automatic drop notifications sent to the professor during the active block when a new course is added
- Access Canvas materials immediately after registering
Registration Essentials
Where Can Students Add Courses?
Students initially register through preregistration. After results are released, Add/Drop becomes available for that "preregistered" term and subsequent optional block(s) - half block and summer.
Official registration changes are completed in Add/Drop, accessible via:
- Banner SSB
- The “Register Here” link in Stellic
Through this portal, students may add courses within the available blocks — including those that require a PIN.
When Can Students Add Courses?
- Before the block begins: Add/Drop is available until 5 PM on the Friday before the block starts
- After 5 PM Friday: Registration is paused over the weekend
- Days 1–2 of the block (Add Period): Students may add or swap courses only with instructor approval (COI PIN)
- Future blocks: Students may continue adding courses for upcoming blocks within the available terms
What Happens After the Block Begins?
During Days 1–2 only:
- All course adds require a COI PIN from the instructor
- This applies even if you meet prerequisites or were admitted from a waitlist
- Registration must still be completed in Add/Drop
- For your convenience, the professor of the dropped course receives a notification of your registration status change
Important: Being added to a Canvas course does not mean you are officially registered.
Add Deadline (First Tuesday at 5 PM)
At 5 PM on the first Tuesday of the block, Add/Drop closes for course additions.
If you miss the deadline, you must complete the Late Add form and email it to the Registrar’s Office with:
- Student ID
- Course details (CRN, course ID, title, instructor, grade track)
- COI PIN from the instructor
Before Dropping a Block or Semester
All 91自拍 students are expected to maintain full-time enrollment (minimum of three blocks per semester). If you are considering taking time off, it’s important to act before the deadline.Taking one block off:
- Full-time students may register for a single block off directly in Add/Drop
- Requires approval from your Hub Advisor
- Requests must be submitted by 5 PM (MST) on the second Tuesday of the block
All requests (whether through Add/Drop or an advisor) must be completed by the deadline—late requests are not approved.
Important Considerations
Eligibility Commitments: Some students have addtional requirements tied to their enrollment, including students receiving scholarships or vetern benefits, student-athletes, and international students.- Taking Time Off? Check with the appropriate office first - it may affect your aid, benefits, athletic eligibility, or visa status.
- Financial Aid: financialaid@coloradocollege.edu
- International Students: Contact ISSS before making changes:isss@coloradocollege.edu
- Student-Athletes: check with your coach or Athletics
- Veteran Benefits: Contact your SCO: abelton@coloradocollege.edu
- Not Sure? Your hub advisor or the Registrar's Office can help point you in the right direction.
Missed the Drop Deadline?
Students have until the second Tuesday of the block to drop a course. After that, options include:
- Change Grade Track (e.g., Pass/Fail) Petitions may be considered (with extenuating circumstances) within one year
- Request an Incomplete Arrange directly with your professor for additional time (up to three blocks)
- Excused Grade Petition For documented situations (i.e., medical), with instructor approval
Avoid an Administrative Fail (WF)
Students who do not officially withdraw or stop participating without approval may receive a WF (administrative fail).
Drop Deadline (Second Tuesday at 5 PM)
Students can register for a Block Off to officially drop their current block course no later than 5 PM on the second Tuesday, full course drops are not available in Add/Drop. Those who have already taken a Block Off and need more time off, may contact their hub advisor to facilitate this process.
After this point:
- Students are financially responsible for the block
- Dropping the course is no longer an option
Related Policies:
Grade Track Change Policy
The current policy states: Grade track changes are not permitted after the second-to-last day of the block without extenuating circumstances.
In practice, this means students have until 5 PM on the last Tuesday of the block to select or change their grading option.
Policy Background
- Previous policy: Changes allowed during the first four days of the block
- COVID-era update (Spring 2020): Extended deadline to the last Tuesday
- Current policy (adopted 2023): Last Tuesday deadline is now permanent
At 5 PM on the last Tuesday of the block, grade track changes are locked in and can no longer be made in Add/Drop. The grading options students may choose from are:
- Letter Grade (G)
- Pass/Fail (S/CR/NC)
- No credit earned
- Transcript shows a Z grademark if arrangement conditions are met
- Auditing must be arranged prior to the start of the course
- Auditing cannot be used to avoid a failing grade
Adjunct Courses
Adjuncts provide additional opportunities to earn credit towards graduation (maximum of 2 units towards 32-unit requirement allowed). Adjuncts can span a couple blocks, a full semester, or a whole year.
Adding an Adjunct
- Use Add/Drop to register through the Add period of the starting block (typically the first Tuesday)
- After the Add deadline:
- Submit a Late Course Add Slip to registrar@coloradocollege.edu
- Requests must be received no later than the adjunct drop deadline
Dropping an Adjunct
- Email registrar@coloradocollege.edu with:
- Your 91自拍ID
- The course CRN
- Requests submitted after the drop deadline require instructor approval
(See the RO Calendar & Key Deadlines page for current deadlines.)
Grade Track Changes (Adjuncts)
- Can be completed in Add/Drop through the grade track deadline of the starting block
- After that, submit a request to registrar@coloradocollege.edu
- Final deadline: 5 PM on the last Tuesday of the adjunct course
Half Block (H Block) Registration
Half Block registration is available in Add/Drop and typically opens alongside fall schedule changes (in the spring) following Fall Preregistration.
Half Block (H Block) is an optional January block that allows students to earn 0.50 credit. Courses are listed under the Spring term in the course schedule and labeled as “H” Block.
- Students may enroll in one Half Block course per academic year
- Registration is completed through Add/Drop (Banner or Stellic access-points)
- Instructor consent (COI PIN) may be required for some courses
- A shorter block also means a shorter drop decision window (first Thursday)
How to Register
- Log in thru Banner or Stellic
- Open Add/Drop
- Select the appropriate Spring term
- Search for “H” Block courses or enter the CRN
- Choose a grading option and submit
Important Notes
- Half Block courses are half-credit only (full-credit January courses were offered during Covid only and are no longer offered)
- If a course requires instructor approval, you must obtain a COI PIN before registering
- Students are encouraged to consult advisors when planning their schedules
Summer Blocks
Summer Block registration is available in Add/Drop and typically opens alongside spring schedule changes (in the fall) following Spring Preregistration.
In addition to Half Block, students may also take courses during summer blocks, which offer additional opportunities to earn credit outside the standard academic year. Availability, credit amounts, and registration timelines for summer courses can be found on the Summer Term website.
Additional Opportunities
- Dynamic Half Blocks (non-credit) are offered through the Career Center
What are Temporary Registrations?
Temporary registrations are not official and carry 0.00 credits. This includes:
- Waitlisted courses
- Preregistration placeholders (GS391, GS392)
How Do Waitlists Work?
During preregistration, students may be waitlisted if a course fills beyond capacity.
Placement is based on the seniority system
After preregistration, students who attempt to add a full course are placed at the end of the waitlist
Why Does Being Waitlisted Matter?
Waitlisted courses do not count toward full-time status.
Students are strongly encouraged to enroll in a backup course with open seats while remaining on a waitlist.
Waitlisting is indicating "preferred" registration choice. Should a seat become available before the block begins, a registration change is made on the student's behalf by the registrar's office and a post-change notice is shared.
How Do Students Get Off a Waitlist?
- Waitlisted courses are treated as top preferences
- If a seat opens, students are automatically enrolled and notified afterward (no advance notice)
- Waitlists are processed once daily
- If a seat appears open but a waitlist exists, it will be filled during the next processing cycle
Important:
If you no longer want a waitlisted course, you must request to be removed by emailing registrar@coloradocollege.edu.
Failing to do so may result in being automatically enrolled in an unwanted course, which could affect your ability to rejoin another class.
What Are Preregistration Placeholders (GS391 & GS392)?
Placeholders are temporary courses used during preregistration only while awaiting application approvals. After processing, they carry no credit.
- GS391 (Thesis/Independent Study): Requires an approved thesis or independent study application
- GS392 (Study Abroad): Requires approval through the Center for Global Education & Field Study
- Taking Time Off: Students using placeholders for time away must work with their advisor to complete leave paperwork
What Happens at 5 PM on the Friday Before a Block Begins?
If you were on a waitlist and not enrolled before this deadline, you are no longer registered. To join a course, you must use Add/Drop on Day 1 or 2 of the block with instructor approval (COI PIN).
- Final class and waitlist rosters are sent to faculty
- All temporary registrations are dropped
Important Terms & Definitions: whether you are discussing registration or interacting with either application (Preregistration or Add/Drop), the following are helpful terms to know!
| Add-Drop |
The online self-service tool students use to make official registration changes after preregistration has been processed. Students should use Add/Drop first for course adds, drops, or other registration updates. It can be accessed through the Student Menu in Banner SSB or the “Register Here” link in the Planner tab in Stellic. |
| Term |
A period of enrollment that is commonly used in place of “semester.” On the 91自拍 Block Plan, the academic year is organized into three terms:
|
| Block |
A unique feature of the 91自拍 Block Plan. One Block is 3.5 weeks long and earns 1 unit of credit (equivalent to 4 semester hours or 6 quarter hours). The academic year includes eight required Blocks: Blocks 1–4 in the Fall Term and Blocks 5–8 in the Spring Term. Additional optional Blocks include:
|
| G | A symbol used to indicate the Letter Grades grading track. Grades earned on the G track are standard letter grades and are always included in a student’s GPA calculation. See the Credit and Grades Policy for more information. |
| P | A symbol used to indicate the Pass/Fail grading track. Grades earned on the P track are not included in a student’s GPA calculation unless the student receives a No Credit (NC) grade. A Satisfactory (S) grade earns credit and may fulfill degree requirements associated with the course. See the Credit and Grades Policy for more information. |
| Z | A symbol used to indicate the Audit grading track. Audited courses do not earn credit and do not count toward degree requirements. Audit status requires explicit instructor approval before the course begins and must be manually assigned by the Registrar’s Office. See the Credit and Grades Policy for more information. |
| WF |
A grade assigned when a student stops participating in a course or does not officially withdraw after the withdrawal deadline. A WF is an administrative failure and may impact a student’s GPA. See the Credit and Grades Policy for more information. |
| Passcode |
A 6-letter code used during Preregistration. Students must enter their Passcode in ALL CAPS in the Preregistration application to submit their registration. A student’s assigned general or major advisor (as listed on the student’s Information page) can access the Passcode through Faculty Services > Your Advisees. Passcodes are updated for each Preregistration period. |
| COI |
Short for Consent of Instructor. A COI PIN is a 6-letter code entered in ALL CAPS in the registration application to authorize certain registration actions. COI PINs may be used to override prerequisite errors, approve course adds after a Block or course has begun, or complete registration for courses that specifically require instructor consent. The instructor(s) assigned to the course can access the COI PIN through Faculty Services > Your Teaching Schedule. |
| COD |
Short for Consent of Department. A COD PIN is a 6-letter code entered in ALL CAPS in the registration application to authorize department-level registration approval. The department chair can access COD PINs for their department through Faculty Services > Consent of Department. |
| CRN | Short for Course Reference Number. A unique 5-digit number used to identify a specific course section during registration. Students can find a course’s CRN on the Course Schedule or in the right-hand information panel in Stellic. |
| Course ID |
The identifier used to describe a course offering. It includes the subject code (two letters representing the department or program), the course number (three digits), and a four-character BEST code. Example: GS123 1421 Most students can refer to a course by the subject code + course number (for example, GS123). The additional BEST code provides details about the specific course offering. |
| BEST |
A four- A four-character code that provides additional details about a course offering. BEST appears after the subject code and course number in a Course ID. Example: GS123 1421
|
| Limit |
The maximum number of students who can enroll in a course, as listed on the Course Schedule. Examples:
|
| Reserved (Seats) |
The number of seats in a course set aside specifically for first-year students, as listed on the Course Schedule. Any reserved seats that remain unused are released at the start of the semester and added to the Available seats. Once released, these seats are open to all students. |
| Available |
The number of open seats in a course available to all students, as listed on the Course Schedule. If a course shows available seats but also has an active waitlist, those seats will be offered to students on the waitlist first. Seats become available to all students once the waitlist has been cleared. |
| Class Size | The number of students officially enrolled in a course, as listed on the Course Schedule. |
| WL |
Short for Waitlist. A temporary registration status that allows students to join a line for an open seat in a course. A student’s schedule displays their waitlist position number, which indicates their place in line. On the Course Schedule, the WL number shows the total number of students currently waiting for the course. Waitlist registrations are removed the Friday before the Block begins. If a student is removed from the waitlist, they are no longer considered enrolled in the course. |
| RE | A registration status indicating a student is officially enrolled in a course. Students with an RE registration have a confirmed seat in the course and are included in the course’s official enrollment count. |
| Degree Attributes | Symbols on the Course Schedule that indicate which general education requirements or degree requirement areas a course may fulfill. Review the All College Requirements page for a complete guide to the symbols and requirement categories. |
| TCI | Term Check-In (TCI) is a required reporting process that both the students and the college must complete over the beginning block of each fall and spring semester. Students who are taking courses led by 91自拍-faculty on/off campus for any blocks tied to the semester will "report in" by completing a guided, self-paced form through the Term Check-In portal (SSB). The Registrar's Office facilitates this process until the reporting window closes. Once closed, students who have not reported in will be removed from their classes and their spots on waitlists will be released to active students. Following the close, the enrollment census reports are captured for the term (Fall or Spring Snapshot). |
