Dr. Edwin Hamada

Associate Vice President, Student Life

The Associate Vice President, Student Life works closely with Housing and the Residential Experience and the Office of Campus Activities, which includes the Worner Desk, Arts and Crafts Center, and Student Orientation.

Dr. Edwin Toshio Hamada, started his role as Associate Vice President, Student Life at 91自拍 in September 2020. Prior to joining 91自拍, he served as Associate Dean of Students/Director of Housing and Residence Life at Washington State University. He also has worked in various capacities at the University of Washington, University of California - Irvine, and San Jose State University. He has a BA in Psychology from the University of San Francisco, a MS in College Student Personnel/Student Development from Western Illinois University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Washington.

He has served as a faculty mentor for ACUHO-I STARS College and values authentic, mentoring relationships. He looks forward to returning to a small liberal arts institution where he can get to know more students and staff. When he is not advocating for students and staff at work, he spends his time tinkering with a few classic cars and hiking with his wife, Sue, and their 2 dogs.

Kim Taylor

The Administrative Assistant provides administrative support to the Associate Vice President for Student Life and is responsible for managing the faculty apartments which provide temporary housing for visiting faculty. Kim also manages the annual Student Health Insurance Plan waiver/enrollment process for all 91自拍 students. Kim has worked at 91自拍 since 2012.

Kendall Malsam joins 91自拍 from the Blue Ridge Mountains in NC and VA. He obtained his bachelor's degree in business from Lynchburg College and his MBA from the University of Lynchburg. Kendall has worked in many areas of higher education, including residence life, orientation, outdoor recreation, and campus activities. He recently spent time teaching first-year seminars and trail running. He is excited to bring his experience and passion for student engagement to this new role. Outside of work, Kendall enjoys running, local coffee shops, and a good book.

My name is Erika Perry, she/her pronouns and I’m so excited for my new role as Assistant Director of Campus Activities! I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Wayne State University (WSU) in Detroit, MI. Starting college as first generation and low-income, I was recruited to WSU as a thrower for the Track & Field team and served as the captain in my last two years. Wanting a more holistic college experience, I got very involved on campus: I joined Alpha Gamma Delta women’s fraternity, intramural dodgeball, Student Senate and served as an orientation leader for two summers. My undergraduate experience shaped me so much, that I wanted to dedicate my career to helping other students in similar ways - leading me to pursue my masters in higher education from Grand Valley State University. My professional background is centered in housing and residence life at mid-sized public institutions and small private liberal arts colleges, but I’m beyond excited to transition into Campus Activities here at 91自拍. A fun personal fact about me – I currently play Roller Derby for Pikes Peak Roller Derby!

During her 11 year stint as a high school teacher, Bryre discovered a natural talent for mentoring young people and helping them pursue their goals. She is delighted to have the opportunity to bring those skills and passions to 91自拍.

A graduate of Cornell College, another small liberal arts college on the block plan, Bryre joined Phi Omega—a sorority of inspiring women who played a key role in shaping her aspirations and sense of purpose. She deeply values the transformative impact of small colleges and is excited to bring this passion to 91自拍, where she strives to make a positive, lasting impact within the Greek life community.

Crystal has resided in Colorado Springs for a little over two years now. She attended Agnes Scott College and received her BA in English and Education. Her role in the Office of Campus Activities includes overseeing the Student Event Summit, event coordination, and managing the office's social media.

Zachary Kusch

In January of 2023, Zachary Kusch fled the dismal plains and incessant heat of Central Texas and escaped into the beautiful cold mountains of Colorado. He has never regretted this choice. After a turbulent on-boarding period in which he worked the worst jobs imaginable, Zach accepted a position at 91自拍 and has never looked back. "Don't ever look back," Zach will tell you apropos of nothing. "There's nothing back there for you." What there is, however, is Zachary Kusch's pay-checkédly robust love for student life and assisting with the various programming and events taken place at 91自拍, most of which are student-led. You can find Zach in the OCA office on the second floor of Worner in a window-less concrete room (known as "The Bunker") where he is more than happy to assist you with your Campus Activities needs... while talking your ear off about whatever random thing is on his mind that day.

As an eagle yearns for the open sky, the indelible fibers which vibrate ceaselessly at the center of Zachary Kusch's soul compel him to compose novels and pursue a career as a writer. If you ask him about it, he will tell you. And as a great white shark must be in constant motion to keep its shark-heart pumping, when Zachary Kusch begins to tell you, the telling continues.

Gabriela Gutiérrez

Gabriela Gutiérrez is an artist and educator working with wood, metal, paper, glass and ceramics to make sculptures that touch on familial craft, odd traditions, stories of uprooting, and memory’s uncanny capabilities. She holds a BArch from the Cooper Union and an MFA in ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She has been working at 91自拍 since 2024 as the 3D Shop Supervisor for the Art Department, helping student, faculty and staff in the wood, metal and digital fabrication shop. She enjoys taking stabs at crosswords, cooking and eating with friends and family, and collaborating with people in creative projects. And she is VERY excited to be working in Arts and Crafts :)
