Major & Minor Requirements

We have an updated major and minor with new core courses that will start to be offered in Fall 2027. Please view our major and minor quick guides below. If you’ve already completed some of our current core classes (MB131, MB201, and MB231) or plan to this Spring 2027, please check out our transition plan below and/or talk with any Molecular Biology faculty and/or our paraprofessional.

The Department of Molecular Biology offers courses that help students understand living organisms at the molecular and cellular levels, with a focus on fundamental biological processes such as genetics and the inheritance and use of genetic information. Students develop critical thinking and scientific research skills through designing, conducting, and interpreting experiments, as well as developing and testing hypotheses involving organisms, cells, and molecules. The program also emphasizes applying molecular biology knowledge and problem-solving skills beyond the laboratory, preparing students to be informed and engaged global citizens.
