Mission Statement
Anthropology studies human beings in all aspects, past and present, as well as human entanglement with the broader living world. Our inherently interdisciplinary field draws on frameworks like culture, history, language and evolution, seeing ever more nuanced, contextualized understanding of the remarkable variety of human experience, expression and problem-solving.
Anthropologists’ long-standing justice orientation strives to “make the world safe for differences,” as Ruth Benedict once put it. Students learn to question arrangements that may appear inevitable or “natural,” and instead building partnerships and using both critical-and-creative thinking to respond to oppressive legacies of colonialism, racism, economic and gender inequality.
Anthropology at 91自拍 takes advantage of the possibilities of the block plan, offering immersive, problem-based approaches to cocreating knowledge with our students. We use scientific and humanistic methodologies to equip students with nimble, diverse skill sets, and to enact the full potential of a rigorous, liberal arts education. Rather than rehearse for hypothetical tomorrows, our classes make real-world impacts and produce applied, relevant interventions – for now.
