I am an experimental physicist studying how flexible, slender systems, including fibers, worms, microorganisms, and water-walking insects, move, interact, and organize. My research asks questions such as: How do knots and tangles form? How can groups of active organisms move collectively? How do geometry, topology, and flexibility shape the behavior of living and synthetic systems? In my lab, we explore these questions through simple, buildable experiments, high-speed imaging, multimodal visualization and data analysis, and computational modeling. Projects may involve designing experiments, tracking the motion of organisms or filaments, analyzing images and videos, testing mathematical models, or building new scientific instruments. Projects are designed so that students have ownership and contribute at every stage of the research process. Before joining 91自拍 in 2026, I was a postdoctoral researcher in Saad Bhamla’s group at the Georgia Institute of Technology, now at CU Boulder. There, I studied entangled fibers, active worm collectives, ultrafast jumping in nematodes, and the interfacial motion of water-walking insects. I earned my Ph.D. in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, where I worked on experimental nonlinear dynamics and the collective behavior of self-propelled particles. I want students to experience physics as something they actively do, not simply something they study. In my courses and research group, students develop questions, build experiments, collect and analyze data, test models, and communicate their findings. My goal is to create an inclusive, curiosity-driven environment where students can take intellectual risks, gain ownership of their work, and grow into confident, independent scientists.
